TRAVELLING IN THE PAST

  • people usually travelled on horses, by carriages or walked on foot. Later they used bicycles, steam trains or steam ships, ocean liner.

TRAVELLING TODAY

  • very popular, common and necessary
  • there are many ways – travelling by car, bus, train, plane, ships (less used forms of transpost – going on foot, riding a motorbike or a bicycle)

WALKING OR GOING ON FOOT/RIDING A BIKE

  • the cheapest and the healthiest way of travellin
  • it is convenient for short distances

TRAVELLING BY BUS

  • a bus for long distances is called a coach
  • it is a fast, comfortable way of travelling
  • not so expensive, fare is reasonable
  • you can watch a film during the journey
  • you cannot walk during the journey, cannot stop any time you want
  • you travel with people who don’t know, it might be unpleasant some time

TRAVELLING BY CAR

  • you are independent, you don’t have to follow the timetable
  • you may travel at any time, at any speed
  • you can stop any time you need (car parks, petrol stations, motel- have a rest)
  • you travel with a company who you know, travelling might be amusing and pleasant

TRAVELLING BY TRAIN

  • quite common in the past, with the rapid development of the car industry it became partly neglected
  • today – it is becoming more popular because it offers a combination of speed,comfort and pleasure
  • travelling by train – an interesting and exciting experience especially for children

    (they usually travel by car)

  • you can book tickets in advance
  • at night – you can sleep in a sleeper
  • if you are tired, you can walk during the journey
  • if you are hungry – you can eat in a dinning carriage

TRAVELLING BY PLANE

  • the fastest and the most expensive way o f transport (nowadays there are good offers so the price is not so high)
  • it is convenient for long distance
  • it is a comfortable way of travelling – you can refreshment on the plane, watch TV, listen to the radio
  • it is not very spacious so cannot walk too much
  • you have to book the ticket in advance
  • on a day of a flight – you have to arrive at the airport at least two hours before departure
  • at the airport you have to go through several points: check-in desk, security check, passport control, customs

TRAVELLING BY BOAT

  • it is cheap
  • it might be an amusimg and relaxing way of travelling
  • uncomfortable in bad weather, unpleasant for people who suffer from seasickness
  • it takes a lot of time but it may be a unique experience

  • it helps local economy, it develops the regions, it helps to keep local traditions and crafts
  • it it supports mutual understanding and tolerance
  • it is a way of knowing culture, habits, language of other nations
  • it helps to develop the international cooperation
Negative aspects
  • negative effects on the nature and environment
  • crowded places
  • too noisy environment

Many people think that travelling to exotic countries might be very dangerous to their health. Do you agree?

  1. exotic diseases – we have to be careful and it is advisable and necessary to be vaccinated in order to be protected against diseases which don’t appear in our country
  2. exotic animals – snakes, lizards, spiders – we should know how to behave and what to do meeting them
  3. you need to be packed properly, it means to have appropriate clothes, shoes, creams, medicaments, equipment
