ACCORDING TO SEASON

  • summer – swimming, windsurfing, water polo, canoeing, rowing, cycling, football, cricket, golf, athletics, sailing, yachting, cross-country run,
  • winter -skiing, cross country skiing race, sledging, snowboarding, figure skating, speed skating, ice-hockey

ACCORDING TO A PLACE

  • outdoor sport- climbing, golf, jogging, hiking, water sport, marathon running, car race
  • indoor sport – boxing, gymnastics, table tennis, darts, curling, ice hockey, ball games, fencing, weightlifting, chess

A NUMBER OF PLAYERS

  • individual sport – gymnastics, athletics,
  • team sport – ball games (basketball, volleyball, football, handball), ice hockey

ADRENALINE SPORT

  • bungee jumping, paragliding, parasliding, parachute jump, skydiving, scuba diving

PROFESSIONAL SPORTSMAN

DISADVANTAGES

  • physically demanding job = a lot of training
  • mentally demandig job = strict discipline (enough sleep, no alcohol,no cigarretes)
  • too much travelling = often away from home (he misses his family)
  • unsuccess = dissatisfaction

OLYMPIC GAMES

  • an international competition held every four years in a different country.

  • Olympic flag: consists of 5 circles (red, black, yellow, blue, green) = represent 5 continents
  • the symbol of OG = a flame (the symbol of perfection and victory)

  • used tobe the sports contests held in Greece in ancient times (first time they were held in 776 BC). The ancient Olympic Games were played every four years for nearly 1200 years. In 393 AD the Roman emperor Theodosius I, a Christian, abolished the Games because of their pagan influences. Approximately 1500 years later, a young Frenchmen named Pierre de Coubertin began their revival.The first modern Olympic games were held in 1896
  • since 1960 = special Olympic games for handicap people started = Paralympics.
